BIPOCA Alliances

The BIPOCA (Black Folk and Indigenous People of Color and Allied White Folk) Alliances are a strategic initiative created by the Friends of the African Union (FAU) as part of the broader Black Folks Plan. These alliances are designed to unify Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities along with their allies to address systemic challenges, promote equity, and foster economic empowerment across the United States and globally.

Mission and Objectives

The mission of the BIPOCA Alliances is to create a united front among communities that have historically faced marginalization and inequality. By building strong partnerships and networks, these alliances aim to:
– Advocate for social justice and equality for all people, particularly those of African descent.
– Address systemic barriers to economic opportunity, health, and education.
– Develop sustainable community reinvestment coalitions that empower local communities.

Key Initiatives

1. Equity and Opportunity Alliances

These alliances focus on recognizing and addressing both inequality and inequity within communities. Through strategic partnerships, the BIPOCA Alliances aim to implement solutions that close the wealth gap, enhance access to quality healthcare, and improve educational outcomes for underserved populations.

2. SmartWISE Community Reinvestment Coalitions

The FAU supports these coalitions in cities, counties, and states across the nation. Each coalition is composed of local FAU chapters, members of the African Diaspora, and regional allies. Their goal is to advance the work and agenda of the BIPOCA Alliances by building bridges and forming alliances that amplify the voices and struggles of people of African descent worldwide.

3. Global Compact for Democracy with a Just Economy

The BIPOCA Alliances play a crucial role in promoting the Global Compact for Democracy, which aims to finance civil society aspirations within the UN System. This initiative is part of a broader movement to create a sustainable and inclusive economy that benefits all communities, particularly those that have been historically marginalized.

Connection to the Black Folks Plan

The BIPOCA Alliances are an integral part of the Black Folks Plan, a comprehensive strategy designed to promote reparatory justice and economic empowerment for African Americans and other marginalized groups. The Black Folks Plan leverages partnerships, such as those within the BIPOCA Alliances, to drive systemic change at the local, national, and global levels. By aligning with the Black Folks Plan, the BIPOCA Alliances contribute to creating a more equitable society where all people have the opportunity to thrive.

Impact and Reach

The BIPOCA Alliances are active in every Congressional District across the United States, with plans to expand globally. These alliances aim to create a 100-city movement for change by 2025, pushing back against centuries of inequality and advancing a vision of a sustainable, inclusive 21st-century economy. The alliances work in collaboration with the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) and other partners to implement solutions focused on affordable housing, clean energy, and social justice.

Get Involved

The BIPOCA Alliances welcome the participation of individuals, organizations, and communities who are committed to advancing social justice and equity. By joining the movement, you can contribute to building a more just and inclusive society that recognizes and values the contributions of all people, regardless of race or ethnicity.
